Merton

CAAM (the Campaign Against Academies in Merton) has been set up to stop two community comprehensive schools becoming privately sponsored ‘academies.’ It reports that Lord Harris, already a sponsor of three ‘academies’ in south London, and who now wants to sponsor of Tamworth Manor school, ‘is best known as the millionaire owner of the Carpetright chain with over 400 stores. He is in the top 200 of the Sunday Times rich list and was made a Lord by John Major. He is an active politician. He met us when we picketed one of his shops and admitted that he helped fund David Cameron’s leadership bid.’
